Nic Vujicic - September 11, 2014

Our students all watched a presentation given by Nick Vujicic via simulcast during Homeroom. Nick is part of the STAND STRONG TOUR focusing on sharing his hope and inspiration with young people and addressing topics that impact our lives, like bullying.

"This fall Proclaim, Inc. will bring internationally renowned auther and speaker, Nick Vujicic to Indiana to address Jr. and Sr. high school students throughout the state in a series of live events, and webcasts on topics that impact their lives, like bullying. Born without arms or legs, Nick's passion for sharing his hope and joy with young people is intense. Just last year he visited 24 foreign countries and spoke to over 400 million people. For three days this fall Nick will be in Indiana to share his message of hope, respect, and purpose with over 475,000 students in grades 7-12."

Matt Wilhelm - October 9, 2014

Matt Wilhelm’s school assembly programs are fun, educational, and engaging. He is an articulate speaker that speaks to kids on their level. Matt talks about bullying, perseverance, bike safety, and character. The 40-minute show creatively mixes BMX stunts with educational content. When Matt speaks the kids hear the message loud and clear.

Bullied as a kid, Matt was called “Ears” and was often the target of bullies. He grabs the student’s attention with a powerful visual analogy depicting how he was bullied. While telling his personal story, Matt offers three specific steps on how to deal with bullies: Never fight, tell an adult, and engage the bystanders.

Students learned what bullying is and what it is not, the difference between “Tattling” and “Telling”, and the idea that it takes a tougher person to walk away from a fight than to actually fight. Most importantly students heard a powerful story from someone they consider a well-respected peer.          **image: bmx.trasworld.net**

The Power of Words - October 2014

In the month of October, all grades went through a lesson on "The Power of Words" in their language arts classes. This lesson was combined with a group activity, video clip, and a writing response that encouraged students to process and discuss the effects of our daily actions and choices. If you have time, ask them about it!
